CO2 emission estimation and monitoring
Intelligent parking and delivery areas
Since its foundation in the early 14th century, Bilbao has been a commercial hub with significant importance in Spain, mainly thanks to its port activity based on the export of iron extracted from the Biscayan quarries. Nowadays Bilbao could be considered as the industrial and financial capital of the Basque Country with a very active urban commercial sector. It is located right in the heart of Greater Bilbao, which is a metropolitan area of 499,4 sqKm with 1,141,457 inhabitants.
The combination of CO-GISTIC services in Bilbao has a clear socio-economic approach. On one hand, CO-GISTICS services will increase the competitiveness of the local business by improving “last mile” delivery practices and, on the other hand, they will improve the quality life of the city by reducing emissions and kilometres driven by vehicles in the city centre. Therefore the services will focus on vehicles optimisation and infrastructure modernisation.
The Eco-drive support and the CO2 emissions estimation and monitoring are the two in-vehicles services piloted in Bilbao. These services will optimise driving behaviour and will help fleet operators to reduce fuel consumption and achieve CO2 emissions targets, which is 30% reduction by 2020. While the Intelligent truck parking and delivery areas service will improve four existing delivery areas in order to be self-enforced and in this way facilitate the logistics operations in the city.
